Blue Tights 青いタイツ

For the first time in a very long time a game made me gave me a case of the “what the fuck?”s. Literally. I opened up this game and said “what the fuuuuuck?” as soon as the gameplay started. My wife was all like “stop talking to your computer, you know it can’t hear you”, so I was all like “go make me a turkey pot pie!”…

Alex Kidd in Miracle World

Alex Kidd in Miracle World was developed and published by Sega before being released in 1986 on the Sega Master System. It would eventually prove to be the defining game of the Master System until and certain blue hedgehog with a disregard for speed limits would hit the scene much later in the 90’s. When the Master System 2 was released, Alex Kidd in Miracle world was actually built into the system, with no cartridge needed to play the game.…

Yamamoto san

Yamamoto San is a side scrolling platformer from a freeware developer by the name of Yuzuru Yasuda . I think that might actually be his real name. The game has 16 levels in total, each offering plenty of platform jumping and baddie busting action. The first couple of levels are actually a kind of training mode which is entirely in Japanese, however anyone familiar with platform games should have zero trouble figuring out the basics.…

Excelsior, Phase One

Excelsior, Phase One is the first of two freeware role playing games produced by 11th Dimension Entertainment. The first game is reminiscent of the early Ultima games, while the second installment looks and plays more like one of the later entries in the Ultima series. In my humble and often disregarded opinion, Excelsior Phase One trumps the lot. Well maybe it doesn’t quite “trump” the Ultima series, but it is definitely on the same level.…

RIAH

RIAH is a freeware platformer that looks and plays a lot like a classic NES or SMS title. It looks very “8-bit”. You play a heroine who is on some sort of quest for some reason or another. Absolutely no story is given in this game, but it is actually kind of nice not to have to sit through screens of back story and some bullshit training mode before you can even start playing the game itself.…
